Yeongi-gun is located in the northeast corner of Chungcheongnam province and faces Cheongwon-gun of Chungcheongbuk province to the east, Gongju to the west, Daejeon to the south, and Cheonan to the north. It covers 361.4 square kilometer, which accounts for the 4.2% of the total territory of south Chuncheong province. The county consists of 1 town, 7 subcounties with 97,371 populations.
Influenced by a typical continental climate, Yeongi especially has a huge temperature gap of the summer and the winter due to the heavy climatic extremity, indicating 12.4 ¡É of its yearly mean temperature. The average in January is -1.4¡É, and the average in August is 25.1¡É. Looking at the rainfall, it is 1,656.1mm averagely.
Yeongi is a vital transportation hub, where the National Road No.1, Gyungbu (Seoul-Pusan) Railway, and Chungbuk Railway pass through it.
As of December, 2005, the number of companies registered in Yeongi was 5,212 with 27,610 employees. In 2006 alone, Yongin¡¯s trade volume amounted to US $673 Mil. with US $373 Mil. in exports and US $300 Mil. in imports.
In agriculture, thanks to the fertile soil and the ample amount of sunlight, Yeongi is internationally renowned for the best-tasting peaches, pear, and grapes.
